Cannabis, amphetamines among most common drugs found in ISP toxicology testing
MERIDIAN, Idaho — Cannabis-related compounds remained the most commonly detected drugs in adult toxicology samples tested by Idaho State Police Forensic Services, followed by amphetamine and methamphetamine, according to the newly published Fiscal Year 2026 Toxicology Report.
At least one drug was detected in 84% of adult toxicology samples tested, and 45% contained multiple drugs.
The most commonly detected substances across toxicology casework were cannabinoids, amphetamine/methamphetamine and cocaine or its breakdown product, benzoylecgonine. Together, these accounted for more than 63% of the drugs reported.
Among adult DUI samples tested for alcohol or other volatile substances, 82% had alcohol concentrations at or above 0.08%.
The annual report examines alcohol and drug testing of blood and urine samples submitted in connection with DUI and other investigations. This testing provides evidence to support investigations and court proceedings while identifying trends in substances detected across Idaho.
The findings reflect samples submitted to ISP laboratories for testing and do not represent all DUI incidents or substance use across Idaho.
The full report and an accompanying fact sheet summarizing the findings are available at isp.idaho.gov/forensics/news.
